Saturday – Fun Day!
Saturday started pretty much like Friday…except I got up at 6:00 :o) I washed up a bit, then went and claimed our chairs. The sun was just about to rise, so I ran back to the room and made Ryan get up. We went back down to the pool area and watched the sun come up…and the whales of course. Absolutely beautiful. When La Terraza buffet opened we were among the first to get in line. I saw one lady get some pancakes and was like wow…I want them to make me some too. I took one bite and made Ryan try them. They tasted like a cake…they were awesome. Ryan immediately stood and went and got his own short stack.
After breakfast, we proceeded to our beach chairs. There we sat. Getting up only every half hour or so to dip in the pool to cool down. Then the cabana bed right behind us opened up so we moved all our stuff two feet behind us and laid down (now in the shade which is very important to us fair skinned folks). A couple of Ryan’s coworkers took our chairs. They decided to go play a bit of beach volleyball and invited us to come along. I declined, but Ryan went to play. They played for about two hours…I laid around, walked to the water and took some pictures, video, etc. and then met back up with them as they were finishing up their game. Ryan could barely walk. Unlike gulf sand, the sand in Cabo is like gravel…so put two feet on gravel-like sand for two hours…you get the drift…he could barely walk. We immediately headed to the pool to cool his feet down. And then the crazy afternoon games began. The resort has designated activities people. And Saturday afternoon was labeled “Gringo Bingo.” For those of you who have never played (or observed…which is what we did because we were in the pool) the person calling out the numbers was dressed in a large black and white cow suit and the person pulling the numbers was dressed as the devil…anyone who claimed to have won, they called a cheater (and they would start shouting on the microphone, “cheater”, and then again in Spanish). Then they would start chanting “belly flop, belly flop” and convince the person to belly flop into the pool. It was extremely disturbing, but also very entertaining…but seriously, why the cow and the devil? We are still confused. Anywho, we realized that it was already two o’clock and the lunch buffet was about to close. So even though we weren’t that hungry, we went and ate some lunch. After lunch we went straight back to our cabana bed and took a nap…ahhhh…nap in the middle of the day, listening to the ocean. Very very relaxing. We both woke up somewhat confused of our whereabouts, then sat around to watch the afternoon whales. At about 4:30, we headed off to the room and cleaned up for the beach dinner party that evening. Dinner on the beach this time was much more normal. Grilled chicken, grilled beef, and sausage, several types of salads…you get the drift. They had a live band which was extremely loud. After dinner most of us retreated to the lounge area for cards, dominos, etc. One of Ryan’s coworkers approached us about a night on the town in Cabo. Several of us went and changed and met in the lobby. About twenty of us in all. We split two cabs. There were obvious leaders to this group. A few of the guys had made it a point to go out in town every night we were there. So we followed. We started out at a place called Zoo, then meandered over to another somewhat famous joint called Cabo Wabo. Lots and lots of people watching to do in CSL at night. I was following one of Ryan’s younger coworkers when walking into one of the bars. The second we walked through the door he turned to me and said, it smells like a port-o-potty right? It did! Like one of those urinal cakes! The number of middle aged Americans who had decided to throw their cares away, take a half dozen shots of tequila and dance were in abundance. Needless to say, we didn’t stay there long. Then we went on a little trek through the back streets trying to find our next place to sit. It was odd that at night, while in a group, no one approaches you offering all the illegal substances as they do during the day. SAFETY IN NUMBERS FOLKS. Remember that! We ended up back at Zoo and stayed there for a couple of hours, dancing, people watching, running in to more coworkers and their spouses. A lot of fun and very entertaining. We left Zoo at about 1:15, following the rest of the group. It is funny how you don’t really know when you are leaving until you see half your group walking out the front door. This time when the party decided to change locales, much to our regret, we knew it was time to go home. Four of us grabbed a cab and headed back to the hotel. Got back about 2 and got immediately into bed. Learned the next day a couple others were only about fifteen minutes behind us. The rest of them stayed out until 4:00! And that’s mountain time!
Absolutely awesome day, but needed our Z’s. Come on folks…I did get up at 6:00 :o)
